From the beautiful monument known as the Tablet of the 96 Hieroglyphs, it was known that K'inich Ahkal Mo' Nahb' III was ultimately succeeded in A.D. 764 by a son who ruled as K'inich K'uk' B'alam II. But almost nothing is known about the period after Ahkal Mo' Nahb's own accession to rulership in 722. Could it be that K'inich K'uk' B'alam had an older brother who ruled in the interim?
