Originally six standing figures had flanked a character whose greater prestige was expressed by his seated position. Glyphic captions named two of the standing figures as young men who would grow up to become Palenque rulers: K'inich Kan B'ahlam (oldest son of Pakal the great) and K'an Joy Chitam (his younger brother and the unfortunate Tonina captive). |
