Robert Wald (1999) has read the "wavy bone" variant of the Palenque emblem glyph as k'uh-ahaw-bak-la / k'uh[u]l bak ahaw / "holy Palenque lord". In ancient times the kingdom of Palenque was known as Bak, or "Bone".
