The situation in the kingdom at this time was substantially different from when K'inich Ahkal Mo' Nahb' had come of age. K'inich Kan B'alam had died, and his brother had acceded as K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II. This ruler had the ill fortune to be captured by the rival kingdom of Tonina and in all probability sacrificed. However we don't know when his death occurred. All we know is that the next ruler, K'inich Ahkal Mo' Nahb' III, was not installed for ten years.
