These fragments, cleaned and assembled in the lab, show a hieroglyphic inscription concerning the death of the father of Palenque ruler K'inich Ahkal Mo' Nahb' III. The sculpture below depicts the pointed upper jaw of an open-mouthed monster with attributes of a heron.
