The Cross group consists of three buildings in a triangular formation surrounding a
central plaza: the Temple of the Cross, the Temple of the Foliated Cross and the Temple of the Sun.
Built by Kan-Balam, one of Palenque's most famous kings, these impressive structures were beautifully integrated into the natural surroundings. Their grace and grandeur finds its ultimate expression in the art, color, and elegant proportions contained within them. From a technical point of view, like the architecture of Notre Dame in Paris, the architects of these buildings pushed the limits of their technological knowledge to create the most spacious interiors in all of Maya architecture. -- Alfonso Morales |
