Judging by the abundance of inscriptions everywhere at this site, Copan must have been one of the most literate places in the Maya world. Here, a text in the Reviewing Stand relates historical events. A fair amount of texts at Copan have proved difficult to understand, since they deal with ceremonies the nature of which remains obscure.
