The building known as the Iglesia ("Church") stood just off the northeastern corner of the large Las Monjas complex. It is a small, yet impressively ornate structure, the upper fiezes of which still display the deity masks that have been identified by different scholars as belonging to either the rain deity Chaak or to the creator deity Itzamnaaj.
