Workmen consolidating the joints of the basal wall of the Temple XX substructure with cement and lime.

Joshua Balcells excavating the substructure of the Temple XX pyramid and locating the architecture for consolidation. It looks like the terraces along the base of the pyramid were built as reinforcements to the structure at a later date.

The original blocks of the Temple XX substructure were of a softer stone and more rectangular cut than those of the reinforcing terraces built at a later date.

The stucco on one of the building fragments from Temple XX has the handprint of a person with small hands.

The south side of the Temple XX substructure had a very vertical slope. We had a rope next to the workers to assist in the climb.

Several test pits made in the plaza next to Temple XX revealed bedrock close to the surface.
