This figurine depicts a person wearing a human face as if it were a mask (note the mouth and the eyelids of the wearer under the mouth and eyelids of the skin "mask"), in what is probably a depiction of the deity later known as Xipe-Tótec (our Lord the Flayed One), which was associated with Spring and renewal.
